The appearance of your home office has a tremendous impact on making you feel productive and motivated. As working from home already requires self-discipline, it helps to have a dedicated space for a home office to allow for creative flow and isolation from daily distractions. Here are six key steps to consider when designing your home office:

1.Assess your current office space. Analyze the space in which you will be working in by sitting at your desk and looking around the room. Take in the size, shape and features such as the fireplace or windows. Is the room comfortable? Is it too homely? Establish if clients will be coming to your office. If they will be, it is imperative that the space be kept well organized as you are gaining their respect and trust. Imagine you are a client. What things would you expect to see and what things should be stored out of sight? Does your office seem too small to meet clients in? Does your office equipment need to be updated? What statement does your office currently say about you and your business?

2.Create the look you want. Determine what type of environment you are most productive in. Now think about how you feel in your current office space.  Do you feel inspired, drowsy or stressed out? Are you focused? Reflect on what tone you want this room to have. It can be casual, creative, contemporary or classic. One word of caution: Keep in mind who your clients are and what their interests may be. You don’t want this space to be too radical if your clients are primarily seniors. Consider your budget and decide on a time frame for the renovations to take place that works best for you and your family.

3.Select a paint color to reflect this mood. Color is the easiest way to improve a space and an effective way to alter it. Color creates an impression, and will affect all that come into your office. It can give a welcoming sense or make people feel too cramped and uncomfortable. Warm hues – reds, yellows and oranges create excitement, cheer and make people feel lively. Cool colors – blues, greens and purples create a calmer, more serene and restful atmosphere. You can cozy up a large room with warm colors and cool tones can open up a smaller space. Trendy office colors include tints of yellow and turquoise, beige and white.

4.Choose the necessary elements. Many home offices are decorated with mismatched pieces obtained from other rooms around the home. Is there an intermingling of fine wood, steel and metal furniture in your office? Decide what pieces work best together and part with the ones that don’t. The furniture, wall covering, flooring, lighting and window treatments should all work together in mood, function and harmony. Are there noticeable distractions that don’t belong? These may include laundry, ironing board, posters and busy wallpaper. If there is clutter, sort through it and neatly file important documents and discard items that haven’t been used for more than a year. Save yourself money by recovering, refinishing, repairing and repainting pieces.

5.Add accessories for a final touch. Introduce accessories into your work space to pull all design components together. Situate houseplants and aromatherapy scents around the room to increase alertness and performance. Display certificates and diplomas on the wall as they will help build credibility and impress your clients. Add a pleasant calendar to your wall. Purchase a desk organizer set.  Lay a daily planner out so you will stay organized. Place a small radio in your office so you can listen to soft music as you work. Arrange fresh flowers on a table near where your clients will be seated. Position framed pictures on the walls that will motivate you to work.

6.Consider consulting with an interior decorator. Design professionals can help you select a new décor and show you ways to tie in pieces already available in your home office. Design consultants will advise you to go through decorating magazines and clip out photos you like. This will allow you and the designer to get a better sense of what design aspects you like and possibly take some ideas from these pages and implement them into your area. They can offer a variety of placement and design options for you to choose from while suggesting cost-efficient ways of getting the look you want on a smaller budget.

Have fun decorating your home office and remember that renovations don’t last forever!

Let’s get something straight right from the start. It is VERY difficult to make more than $10 or $20 a day working on the Internet part time. Has it been done? Yes. Can it be done again? Yes. The reality of it is though, that unless you can put your full time energy into it you will only end up making about $10 per day. So, if you’re here looking for that get quick rich scheme that you’re convinced exists, you’re in the wrong place. If you’re here hoping to make a little extra money to make ends meet while doing something that is fun from your home for a few hours a week, then you’re in the right spot. I don’t know about you, but I could use an extra $300 per month!

You often hear the word free associated with working from home. Free guide to your success, free money making opportunity, free ebook and so on. Nothing is free! Everything has a cost, hidden or otherwise. If it seems to good to be true, it is. Later on I will explain how it’s possible to get “free” web hosting for example. While you won’t have to put any money up front, you will be sacrificing flexibility, features and some freedom by doing it. Not that this is bad, it all depends on what your goals are. Always know though that there is a cost to everything.

There’s one thing that people often forget, working at home is still work! Along with that goes a great saying I once heard, what you focus on expands. If you put the time and energy into your home business, it will make more than $10 per day, but it will be difficult. There is a lot of competition out there. You have to be very well organized and focused to compete in this market. keep in mind though, just because there’s a McDonalds, doesn’t mean there can’t be a Burger King.

This is not a get rich quick scheme or gimmick. I’ve taken the time to make this site to explain the basics of working at home on the Internet. I’ve broken it out into what I think are the major categories and steps you need to take, from beginning to end. After reading this site and following it’s directions you will have a fully functional money making website. You may or may not get rich from this site, but you’ll at least make a little extra cash.

A couple things will make your work at home business a little more likely to succeed. A good understanding of the Internet and a hobby or topic that you enjoy. The first one seems obvious, but the second one is important, and just happens to be the next step in creating your online business.

Working at home in a freelance job means that you are not guaranteed a regular pay cheque. But the advantage is that you can make a lot more money.

So what kind of jobs can you do as a freelance operator?

The best kind of work involves creative ability. Working as a freelance writer can be lucrative. Your business could involve writing text for web pages, writing articles and submitting them, being a ghost writer for a busy executive, proof reading and even just basic data entry.

Knowing how to use the internet is helpful because often you will be asked to write about subjects where your own knowledge is very limited.

Working at home as a free lance web designer can be profitable if you understand web site design and are a bit of a techie! According to recent reports 53% of small businesses now have a website. This means that there are still 47% of businesses that do not have a web presence.

Another area of opportunity lies in getting targeted traffic to existing and new websites. Most people assume that once they build a great website, traffic will come naturally. This is far from true.

Another type of business that you can work from home is turning your passion for taking pictures into a serious free lance business opportunity. With the advent of digital cameras this is no longer as expensive as it used to be and you can view all the pictures on your computer screen before deciding which ones to use and which ones to print!

To make it successful working from home it is important to become very good at one skill. There are many opportunities out there for people who are dedicated and can perform a task well.

Working from home is also becoming very popular with larger businesses who allow their employees to work from home. This allows them to keep great staff who feel they would like to spend more time with the family. If more companies followed suit then just maybe there would be less traffic on the road during rush hour.

Here’s to your success.

Women in business numbers are rising rapidly. Being your own boss and working from home is a popular option for women who want to fit work around their children. Around half a million women in the UK choose to run their business from home.

So what kind of businesses do women choose to start? Many women choose to run an online business as it gives them the flexibility to work from home. Others go down the path of becoming an Avon distributor, or hosting parties for other women supplying female products. Some choose to focus on products for mums and children whilst others open retail outlets ranging from florists to beauty salons.

So how do you juggle work and being a mum at the same time? A possible solution is to get some help with the children by paying a child minder for a few hours a day. Many schools now offer out of hour’s school clubs which are great fun for extrovert children who enjoy interacting with their school friends. Taking turns with other mums who are also working is another possible solution.

Online grocery shopping can help to reduce the work load for busy mums. Although there is a small delivery charge this is nothing compared to the time spent trekking down to the supermarkets with demanding children. Doing the bulk of the weekly shopping in the comfort of your own home on the internet saves time and means that trips to the shops are few and far between and for emergency items only.

By having a separate office from other rooms in the house, means that it is easier to separate work and family time more easily. Having a lock on the door helps to keep children away from important files and your computer! A separate line for business calls only also help a lot and means that the phone is always free for incoming and outgoing calls.

Dealing with guilt is another problem that busy mums face. Surely they should be dropping and collecting the children? How do they overcome the nagging thought in the back of their heads saying that you should be spending more time with the children? One way to do this is allocate some special time for quality interaction on a one to one basis.

Women are allowed to be more than just a mum and children are also very adaptable to new routines as long as they are managed correctly and there is some consistency to their daily lives.

There are many websites that have been set up primarily to deal with issues that many women in business face. They provide a lot more then just business hints and tips. They also offer guidance on a wide range of issues that are not business related and some even have forums where busy mums can chat to like minded people during their break.

Some days everything can go wrong! The childminder is ill, washing is undone, customers are angry and your latest supplier has just let you down. How women cope with all these demands is beyond me but many continue to do so.
